Biserial Correlation

The correlation coefficient between a dichotomously categorised variable and a continuous variable is referred to as a biserial correlation. In calculating the coefficient, allowance is made to estimate what the correlation would have been if the dichotomous variable had not been categorised and had remained as a continuous variable.
